The ESL (English Second Language) program at Chandler View consists of 2 different types. The primary classrooms utalize the inclusion model with a few students, particularly newcomers in 3rd grade, pulled out for work with the resource teacher. The intermediate classrooms use the resource model, primarily, with a few students on monitor status.
Mrs. Voss and Mrs. Tripp work with intermediate students in Portables 3 and 4 using the LLI, leveled literacy intervention, materials and other Guided Reading Materials. There are several ESL paraprofessionals supporting ELL (English Language Learners) in their classroom.
ELL students are expected to learn both the language and curriculum at the same time. They take Acuity and NeSA tests right along with their same age peers. In addition, a federally mandated test with four components, reading, writing, speaking and listening, is also given to the ELL students each spring.
Join us as we welcome these hardworking students and their families into our school.
